ES-GE ballast semi-trailers expand the fleet
BKL Baukran Logistik GmbH is a leading provider and proven specialist in the areas of crane rental, sale and service. Our customer, headquartered in Munich, has made a name for itself across the industry over the past few decades and stands out, among other things, with its huge and modern fleet of cranes. More than 300 employees at a total of seven locations are responsible for using the machines and providing tailor-made project support. With an impressive fleet of over 500 construction cranes, 100 mobile cranes and 20 mobile construction cranes and a company history of over 50 years, our customer is experienced enough not to leave anything to chance when purchasing. We are therefore pleased that BKL recently added three ES-GE ballast semi-trailers to its fleet.
Robust semi-trailer for crane ballast
ES-GE ballast semi-trailers act as a link between crane work and the associated transport services. Because the transport of crane ballast, which is used as a counterweight during crane work, requires specially suitable transport solutions. Our ballast semi-trailers are designed to withstand the enormous weight of the crane ballast. Therefore, they have, among other things, reinforced frame constructions that enable a high load-bearing capacity. High-quality materials and consistent quality ensure reliability and durability.
4-axle with mechanical forced steering for BKL
Three 4-axle ES-GE ballast semi-trailers have been in use for BKL for several months. The delivered vehicles are all equipped with mechanical forced steering that acts on three axles. Axles two, three and four are steered. The first axle is rigid, but also has a lift function. Air suspension, which is standard in this vehicle class, ensures the necessary driving stability. To monitor the load condition of the axles, all of which come from SAF, the system’s pressure is monitored using a manometer mounted on the trailer. This allows the load acting on the drum-braked axles to be read at a glance.
Sturdy loading platform with hardwood floor
Including the outer frame, the length of the usable loading area of the ballast semi-trailer is approx. 11,200 mm. The chassis of the 4-axle is based on a welded frame made of profile steel and a side frame made of UNP steel. An approx. 28 mm thick and durable hardwood floor is bordered between the longitudinal beams. Hook plates, lashing rings and stake pockets in the frame and in the loading area itself offer countless options for securely lashing cargo on the semitrailer. Also part of the load securing package: stake pockets including the appropriate stakes, which can be transported in the stake-magazine at the front of the platform.
Ballast semi-trailer with low dead weight and high payload
In addition to the longevity and robustness in daily use, the focus is of course on the possible loads. The 4-axle ES-GE ballast semi-trailer in the delivered configuration weighs approx. 10,500 kg. Based on the maximum permissible loads of the neck (24,000 kg) and axles (4 x 10,000 kg), the trailer theoretically offers a maximum payload of approx. 53,500 kg. If you add up the individual loads, the 4-axle vehicle has a total weight of 64,000 kg. All information on possible loads and weights are of course individually dependent on the respective equipment and the legal framework.
